VETERANS DAY AT OLD CATHEDRAL
Saturday November 11, 2017
A large turnout of 69th Pa soldiers and ladies gathered at Old Cathedral Cemetery in
West Philadelphia to honor five more soldiers buried there. Three of those honored
had new gravestones placed by the regiment and the other two had been marked by
families years ago but were unknown to us until recently. In beautiful but cold weather
the regiment marched from grave to grave as the 24 soldiers and 7 ladies heard a
short biography of each soldier; placed Irish soil on headstones; participated in a
prayer and blessing as well as three rifle volleys. An excellent morning was had by all.
