Veterans of the 69th at their regimental monument on July 3, 1887
    2nd Lt. William McNamera, Company I, was wounded during
the fighting at Fredericksburg. He was hit by a rebel bullet that
entered his left leg below the knee on the inside passing through his
leg and exiting. The bullet also damaged his sword. McNamera's
sword is currently owned by a Civil War buff in Los Angeles who
sent this website a collection of photographs. McNamera would
later command Company I on July 3rd at the wall.
