Boxwood For Paddy Owen
Last year at the celebration of the 200th Birthdate of General George Meade at Laurel Hill
Cemetery several members of the 69th took the time to visit the grave of our First Commander
Colonel Joshua Owen, later to be made Brigadier General of the Philadelphia brigade. Resting
high on the South end of the cemetery "Paddy" Owen, as he was affectionately known by his men
in the 69th, Owen's grave needed some attention and the group discussed the idea of placing a
boxwood plant in the seating of the gravestone marker. On Saturday 12th the boxwood plant
arrived and was placed upon our commanders grave.
