| In the midst of a Civil War battle reenactment held in the town of Danville, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of July 20, 2002, our comrade and dear friend Corporal Joe Rumley collapsed on the field and was shortly afterward pronounced dead. Joe was loved by all who knew him, respected by all who served with him and will always be remembered by his comrades in the 69th Pa "Irish Volunteers". At the start of Joe's final battle, a soldier in our line screamed in fear and ran to the rear. Corporal Rumley calmly turned and shot him down as he ran. Joe's message was clear, "do your duty and never divide our ranks". |
