Honoring our Lads
at Cathedral Cemetery
The 69th raises money to place grave markers on the final resting places of all the men who
fought  with our regiment. For years, many of these men lay in unmarked graves. Each
year, we dedicate  another group of soldiers graves by placing a marker; placing soil from
Ireland on their grave site and firing three volleys over their final resting places..
On Veterans Day 2006 we honored the gravesites
of five more men who fought with the regiment
The 69th fires a salute over the graves.
The ladies of the regiment are always
helping with the ceremonies.
Each year we return to the grave of Colonel Dennis
O'Kane, long time Irish militia leader who led us and
died at Gettysburg.
Sergeant Gillen was the very first man
killed in the regiment.
At each ceremony, the biography of the
soldier is read and Irish soil placed upon
his grave
Our officers lead us in the dedication of
the gravestones
Mike Nicholas and his wife drove from North Carolina for the ceremony
In 2006 we were honored to have a decendant of Sgt
Steven Dooley (Co A)  join us and read his biography
as we dedicated another new gravestone
